I Can’t Wait to Meet You

An ordinary day.
Big problems.
Noise, rush, chase.
Then she whispers.
Small problems.

I can’t wait to meet you.

Big kick, first felt, in my hand
at my heart.
I can’t wait to meet you.

Packing, running, wristbands, push.
I can’t wait to meet you.

A new soft and full cry.
Welcome in, little darling.

Our eyes meet.
A belly laugh
behind your toothless smile.

First roll
first crawl
steps
running.

I can’t wait to meet you.

Daycare tears
new friends
first enemies
stories from books
stories from you.

I can’t wait to meet you.

From our embrace
you leap into the world
to find
yourself.

I wait at home,
wondering who
you’ll bring back.

I miss you.
And I can’t wait to meet
each and every one
of you.
